At the Venetian Expo, there are over 2 million square feet of space. It’s, thus, one of the biggest and busiest convention facilities in the city. And it’s not just about size. It has to do with layout, access, and how comfortably things run once the floor opens. The property sits just off the Strip in Paradise, Nevada. You get quick access to Las Vegas Boulevard without being swallowed by it. The Venetian Resort and Palazzo are connected directly to the Expo. So, if you’re staying on-site, you’re already halfway to setup.
Before the Venetian Expo, there was the Sands Hotel. Back in the late ’80s, the hotel got approval to build a new convention center with plans to compete directly with the Las Vegas Convention Center. Ground broke in 1989, and the Sands Expo opened the following year with COMDEX as its debut event. At that time, it was the only privately owned convention center in the country (the second largest in the world). The Sands Hotel itself shut down in 1996, and The Venetian replaced it in 1999. The convention center remained, acting as the backbone for many major trade shows. It expanded in 2003 and got a $35 million refresh in 2013 that introduced energy-efficient upgrades like carpeting, lighting, sensors, etc. In 2021, ownership changed hands again. Vici Properties took over the real estate, while Apollo Global Management now handles operations. The name changed from Sands Expo to Venetian Expo – but the footprint has stayed the same.
How It’s Laid Out
The Venetian Expo delivers a total of 2.25 million square feet of space. That covers:
Five major exhibit halls covering 655,500 square feet
Four large ballrooms: the 14K, 16K, Venetian, and Palazzo
Around 350 meeting rooms ranging from just over 300 to 1,300 square feet each
The halls are modular. You can scale up or down depending on the event size. You’re not locked into a one-size-fits-all layout. Rooms come tech-ready with built-in AV, and the floor can be reconfigured to handle breakout spaces, large exhibits, or full-scale conferences. There’s even private outdoor space built into the layout. Patios, lounges, and custom setups all flow into the indoor footprint and never break the pace of the show.
